About Department |

The Department of Computer Science offers a 3-year degree program leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. The Department of Computer Science is committed to promoting intellectual excellence and developing knowledge that is relevant to the latest technological developments. The mission of the Computer Science Department at G.S.S College is to create a high-standard academic environment that provides Computer Science (CS) students with a solid, technical foundation that enables them to be key players in the local and regional market. The Computer Science Department was started in the year 1995, to impart Computer knowledge to the Degree Students. The Department is parented to Physics Department and at the start it was taken care of by Prof. P.G. Kamat and Prof D.A. Nadagouda. Thereafter well qualified separate staff was recruited to teach the subject. At present the department has a well equipped, spacious laboratory consisting of about 34 systems with latest configuration. The entire laboratory is networked so as to enable the students to share other peripheral devices such as high-speed printers, internet connection etc.. |

As prescribed by the University, the subject teacher prepares the synopsis of the syllabus for every class and put up the monthly portion to be covered on the notice board. This helps the students to come prepared for the class and raise their questions, if any part of the topic is not understood. Also, every month one student from the respective class selects a particular topic with the help of the concerned staff and gives a seminar for about half an hour. This helps the students to gain stage courage, self confidence and a through knowledge of the topic.
To assess the understanding of the topic by the students we conduct tutorials, home assignments and class tests regularly once in every month. These are assessed and the mark obtained are recorded. At the same time for the slow learners, the remedial lectures like solving previous year question papers, repeating the topic which is not followed, explaining the experiments conducted in the laboratories again etc., are conducted. For the bright students some enrichment lectures from different professors on various topics are also arranged. |
