DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES
GSS College is one of the very few colleges where the Languages Department teaches five languages: Marathi, Kannada, Hindi, Samskrita and, of course, English. The Department of languages is unique in that it has a shared history with RPD College. It formed an important part of RPD College of Arts and Science until its bifurcation in 1966 (into RPD College of Arts, and G S Science College.) As an integral part of GSS College, today it continues to hum with activity as always.
The Languages Department had many learned and eminent scholars as faculty in the past. Among them the erudite critic, Prof K G Kundangar and Prof P K Bhagoji (both Kannada), the irrepressible Pu La Deshpande and Prof Anant Manohar (both Marathi), the feisty Prof R S Rege, the scholarly Prof K D Kurtakoti, Prof M S S Iyengar, and Prof L C Patil (all English), and Prof B B Almelkar (Hindi), are some of the luminaries who left a lasting impact on students.
Today, as before, the Languages Department continues to be a beehive of activity. Apart from teaching (pre-requisite) language and communication skills, it plays a crucial role in shaping student sensibilities into a wholesome and well-formed personality. More often than not, Language faculty supervise or assist in events like elocutions and debates, song and dance, essay and poetry writing, conducting a function, editing the College magazine, and so on, which add a zing to campus life. Without exception all of them figure on one or the other committee – and often – on more than one.

- Presented a poem and my views on ‘Kavivarya Vishnu Surya Wagh’ in Online Kavyahotra-2020 on 24th July organized by Kalyan Kavya Manch and Mitraparivar.
- Paper presented on the topic ‘Rashatriya Shikshan Niti-2020 : Aims and Objective’ at one day national seminar organized by Dept. of Marathi, Rani Parvatidevi College, Belgaum on 23 April 2022.
- Paper presented on the topic ‘Lokopanishadacha Anvayarth’ at national seminar organized by Kokan Marathi Parishad, Panjim, Goa 0n 15 Oct 2022. It is Pulished in ‘POWER OF KNOWLWDGE’ journal In August Special issue 2022 with ISSN NO-2320-4494.
