Objectives
- To develop scientific attitude and provide in- depth knowledge of the subject.
- To understand the subject and it’s applications through problem solving, research projects, seminars, reviews of research articles, participation in scientific events etc.
- To develop experimental and computational skills.
- To provide proper guidance in choosing career options in physics.
Physics department is one of the largest departments of GSS College. It offers UG (B.Sc.) and PG (M.Sc.) courses. The department has highly qualified, competent, experienced teaching faculty. Presently, Prof. B.M.Topinkatti is the Head of the department. There are four permanent and four society appointed faculty members in the department. Among these, four of the staff members Dr. S.S.Kalagi, Dr. L. S.Laxmeshwar, Dr. Sameer Kulkarni and Dr. Akshay Kulkarni have completed their doctorates. There are four well equipped laboratories (03 for UG and 01 for PG). Additionally, there are two Nano Material Research Laboratories and a dark room facility for optical experiments in the department. Department also offers the certificate courses in “Electrical wiring and maintenance” for UG students and “Advanced Diploma Course in Solar Science Technology” for PG students

Instrumentation and Research Facilities
Nanomaterials Research LaboratoriesAlong with regular UG laboratories, Physics department has two research laboratories, totally dedicated to research work in nanomaterial synthesis, characterisation and applications. These laboratories have been set up from grants of Rs 7,OO,OOO/- awarded by UGC towards two minor research projects. The research labs are equipped with several high precision instruments necessary for synthesis and characterization of nanomaterial. | |

COURSE COMBINATION

And for PG (M.Sc.) – Condensed Matter Physics.

Department offers following two certificate courses.
