NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

Profile

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian Government-sponsored flagship for public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the government of India. The scheme was launched in the year 1969 (Gandhiji’s centenary year). The scheme was aimed at developing student’s personality through community service. NSS is a voluntary association of young people in colleges, universities and at +2 levels working for a campus-community linkage.

The motto of NSS “Not Me But You” reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to other living beings. The philosophy of NSS is well doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

The Co-ordinator for NSS is Shri. P. S. Patil

The main objectives of NSS are:

  • Making education more relevant to the present situation to meet the felt needs of the communities and supplement the education of the college students by bringing them face to face with the community situation.
  • To provide opportunities to students to play their roles in the implementation of various development programmes by planning and executing development projects, which not only help in creating durable community assets in rural areas and slums but also to the condition of weaker sections of the communities.
  • Encouraging the students and non-students youth to work along with the adults in rural areas, thereby developing their character, social consciousness and commitment, discipline and healthy and helpful attitudes towards the community.
