Post Graduate Department of Chemistry

Objectives

The college took the initiative to start the post-graduate course in Organic Chemistry which was the long time objective of the department to get into the field of Master’s degree and the department came into existence in 2009. Initially it was affiliated to the then Karnatak University, Dharwad, subsequently in 2010 the department got affiliated to the newly formed Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. The Chemistry Department houses state-of-the-art infrastructure and situated in an area of about 7000 sqft. Now it is serving the need of quality higher education for the northern Karnataka part, Goa and Southern part of Maharashtra. There are 2 full time teaching and 2 non-teaching staff working for PG.

This is the only college under Rani Channamma University, Belagavi offering M. Sc. in Organic Chemistry. There are two spacious laboratories and a project laboratory along with all the required facilities like preparation room, balance room, acid room, gas store, departmental staff room etc. There are two spacious classrooms offering excellent environment for higher learning. The department has its own library with requisite number of books in all branches of Chemistry. The results for postgraduate classes have been encouraging and the department ranks amongst one of the best in northern part of Karnataka. Initially the intake of students for the PG course was 24 which were later increased to 30 by Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. Twelve batches of the students have passed out successfully.
